Glassey, Davis Lead Roadrunners at Northridge Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUB track and field teams competed at the highly competitive Northridge Invitational on Saturday. The field included USC, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Long Beach State. The Roadrunners had 24 top-10 marks on the day against a field of competitors that numbered over 1,000.

Junior Michael Davis put together a solid individual day, capturing a pair of third place individual finishes. He finished the 100 meters in 10.65 and then clocked in at 21.83 in the 200 meter dash. He also ran legs on the 4x100 (43.09) and 4x400 (3:22.50) relays, placing fifth and seventh, respectively. In the high jump, junior David Charleston and senior Alex Haver each cleared 1.90 meters and on the count back, Charleston placed eighth and Haver was ninth. Haver was fourth in the javelin B section with a mark of 44.84 meters. Junior Derek Kasselstrand's toss of 50.15 meters in the discus placed him eighth in the A section. Kasselstrand also captured a ninth place finish in the A section of the hammer throw, marking 49.84 meters. Recording a solid time in the 1,500 meters was senior Ryan Lucker who clocked in at 3:59.58. Freshman Collin Ellis was sixth in the B section of the shot put (13.11 meters) and classmate Thomas Judge was eighth (39.58 meters) in the B section of the hammer throw. Junior Ryan Nichols was 10th in the long jump with a mark of 6.75 meters.

On the women's side, junior Casey Glassey recorded the team's highest placing with a second place finish in the 5,000 meters (18:49.42). Finishing behind her in sixth and seventh was senior Lina Nunez (20:01.30) and junior Johanna Montes (20:02.71), respectively. In the long jump, junior Briana Woodfox placed fourth with a jump of 5.29 meters. The Roadrunners had a pair of top eight finishes in the 400 meter hurdles with senior Connie King taking fifth (1:06.21) and junior Jenah Kincaid finishing eighth (1:07.06). Also capturing eighth place finishes were freshman Yesmin Tanguma in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (13:23.74), freshman Cecilia Lopez in the 800 meters (2:23.51) and sophomore Princess Watts in the 400 meter dash (1:00.15). Junior Arianna Celis was ninth in the 1,500 meters in 4:46.72. The 4x100 (50.02) and 4x400 (4:06.86) relays each placed seventh on the day.
