HOUSTON — The CSUB men's swimming and diving team
achieved two more school top five finishes Saturday, helping the
Roadrunners hold on to a third place finish in the team standings at
the 2010 Conference USA Championships.
The Roadrunners totaled 534 points to secure third
place behind Southern Methodist (871 points) and University of Hawaii
(833 points). East Carolina was fourth with 516 points and University
of North Dakota was fifth with 304 points.
“This was our weakest day, but we rose up and beat
the people we needed to to place third,” said Head Coach Chris Hansen.
“These guys really impressed me this week. Six school records and a
handful of 'B' times is bittersweet (because we are not yet postseason
eligible), but this is a young team and we are very excited for next
year.”
Chad McKenzie led the way for the Roadrunners,
placing second in the 200 breast in an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:59.88.
The time also puts McKenzie in the No. 2 spot on CSUB's top five list.
Also achieving a top five mark Saturday was Luka Leskur in the 200 back. The junior lowered his own personal record with
a third place finish of 1:48.32. He remains in the No. 3 position on
CSUB's all-time top five list.
Mark Silvius had a big night with his 10th place
finish in the 100 free. The redshirt freshman from Bakersfield swam a
personal best 45.12, the fastest time on the 2010 Roadrunners squad.
“Mark grew into a leader in the pool this week,
capping that with his swim in the 100 free,” said Hansen. “We also have
to give props to Chad, Matt (Parsonage), Luka and Jake (Priest) who
have led this team all year.”
