BERKELEY, Calif. ? The CSUB men's swim team got a solid performances across the board in its final dual meet of the season, a 104-81 loss to No. 6 nationally ranked Cal Saturday.
“Today was a lot better than yesterday (against No. 2 Stanford),” said Roadrunner Head Coach Chris Hansen. “We handled things a lot better and our seniors, swimming in their last meet, did really well.”
Senior Henry Holmberg led the way by posting second place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (9:31.69) and the 500 free (4:38.61).
Adam Pawlowski finished fourth in the 1000 free, swimming a season best 10:15.90. Two Roadrunner seniors, Sampo Sissala and Thomas Peart, just missed season best times in their respective events. In the 200 free, Sissala finished fifth in 1:44.29, just .06 off his season best time, while Peart was .02 seconds off his top time in the 50 free, placing fifth in 21.96.
Rene Hjorth and Peart both competed in the 200 fly for the first time this season, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in 1:58.81 and 1:59.72.
Sophomore Luka Leskur rounded out Bakersfield's top performances with the third best time in the 200 backstroke at 1:54.58.
“Now we focus on resting our bodies and muscles,” said Hansen of what his squad will do to prepare for the Conference USA Championships. “We will also fine tune some things, including starts and turns.”
The Roadrunner men, along with the women's squad, heads to Houston for the C-USA Championships Feb. 25-28.
