FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Chad McKenzie helped the CSUB swim team wrap up a successful showing at the 2009 US Short Course Nationals Saturday with an 18th overall finish in the 200 breaststroke, which was also good for fourth best on the CSUB all-time list.
McKenzie placed 24th in 2:03.13 in the preliminary heats, earning the final spot in Saturday evening's finals. There, he moved up to 18th in the field and recorded a season best 2:02.10, which now ranks him among the top five in CSUB history.
The remaining four Roadrunner men competing in individual events Saturday also all recorded season best times. Jake Priest swam 2:08.92 in the 200 breast, Malcolm Reid lowered his season best to 45.52 in the 100 freestyle, Mark Silvius tied his season best of 46.50 in the 100 free and Luka Leskur turned in a time of 1:52.38 in the 200 backstroke. In one of the day's time trial events, Reid also swam a season best 49.41 in the 100 fly.
Just one day after setting a school record in the 100 breast, CSUB's lone female competitor, Rachel McCall, concluded her weekend with a season-best 51.88 in the 100 free.
“The experience that we have gained here is going to enhance our program now and for the future,” said Head Coach Chris Hansen. “These guys are lifting our program to a whole new level.”
