The Roadrunner Basketball Experience
CSUB men's basketball has been "Bakersfield's Team" since 1973. The success achieved at the Division II level was the foundation on which we now build our Division I future. The team has tallied more than 700 wins (view video) in the team's history with twenty-one 20+ win season since 1971. Take a look at CSUB Basketball up close!
Before the game, Coach Brown spends time with CSUB fans in a pre-game chalk talk. Bakersfield fans have a high CSUB Basketball IQ and enjoy the "Insiders View" of what to expect during that game that evening.
The teams readies for action in the locker rooms at Rabobank Arena, a state of the art 10,000 seat civic arena located in downtown Bakersfield. The Arena is also home to The Bakersfield Jam (NBA D-League) and The Bakersfield Condors (minor league hockey). Laker Exhibition games and major concert events (including Elton John, Prince, Cher and The Eagles) also take place in Rabobank Arena.

On the Court the 'Runners battle against some of the top teams from the best basketball conferences in the nation at home in Rabobank Arena and on the road in top notch venues. The 2010-2011 schedule is packed with great games and great road trips.
Our coaches offer diverse and extensive backgrounds. Collectively, they provide our student-athletes with a well rounded basketball, educational and social experience.
In the Community: CSUB student-athletes make great contributions to the Bakersfield community. They make school visits, coach camps and clinics and represent the University in a positive way. Giving back to the community is a big part of the Roadrunner culture.
In the Media: Roadrunner basketball receives significant coverage on television, radio and in the newspaper. Home games can be seen on Bright House Networks channel 21. All games, at home and on the road, can be heard on KERN Newstalk 1410 (and on www.kernradio.com). Late new highlights can be seen on the ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX TV stations in Bakersfield.
On Campus: Roadrunner student-athletes are leaders on the campus of CSUB. Student-athletes have a higher graduation rate and higher average GPA than the overall student body. Many student athletes have gone on to serve in positions in student-body government and are involved in campus activities.
The team enjoys tremendous Alumni Support from those who remain in Bakersfield. The following pictures are from a fall 2009 BBQ at Alex Elam's house. The team and alums had a great time reminiscing and getting to know the new team members.
The "Experience" ends only after Roadrunner Basketball players complete their education and receive their degree. CSUB coaches and Administration are committed to setting our student athletes on a course for a successful future through education.
