LOS ANGELES - Katina Fruguglietti and Steve Trojanowski both set personal best marks in the hammer throw, highlighting a successful day for the CSUB men's and women's track & field teams at the Tommie "Tiny" Lister Classic hosted by Cal State L.A. Saturday.
"Once again we had a lot of little PR's," said Roadrunner Assistant Coach Robert Boyles. "It was about 10 degrees hotter than last week, but overall we were happy with our performances."
Fruguglietti led the way on the women's side, posting a third place mark of 161-10 in the hammer throw, surpassing her previous best by nearly four feet. In the men's hammer, Trojanowski also earned a third place finish with a personal best mark of 183-11.
Freshman Ke'Airra Jones had a solid day with a second place, 5-05 mark in the high jump and a 25.12 personal best time in the 200 meter dash.
"Ke'Airra is starting to get faster on the track," said Boyles. "We've also been working on her technique in the high jump and she should get some pop again next week."
Fellow freshman Briana Woodfox continues to improve in the long jump, setting a new personal record with a jump of 17-08.75, four-and-a-half inches farther than her previous top mark.
For the 'Runner men, Bryan Romero joined Trojanowski in earning a PR in the hammer, hitting a mark of 154-02, while Brian Lopez placed second in the javelin with a hurl of 187-04. Lopez also came up a quarter of an inch short of his top distance in the shot put with a mark of 51-09.75.
Bakersfield heads to the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine next weekend for a final tune-up before traveling to Orem, Utah, for the NCAA Division I Independent Championships March 10-11.
