ATLANTA ? Henry Holmberg turned in his fastest morning swim in the 500 free and three other Roadrunner men's swimmers found success in the time trials at the 2008 US Short Course Nationals at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center Thursday.
Holmberg swam a 4:29.96 in the 500 free preliminaries, placing 32nd overall in the field of 64. His mark was shy of the time to qualify for the finals, but was two seconds faster than his previous top morning swim in the event.
Meanwhile, Malcolm Reid won the time trials meet with a personal-best 21.18 in the 50 free and Sampo Sissala won the time trials 100 fly event in a season-best 50.16. Rene Hjorth also competed in a time trials event, placing fourth in the 50 free with a season-best mark of 21.41.
“We're excited about our first day of competition here,” said CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. “We're competing against some of the top swimmers, including Olympians, in the country, so I couldn't be happier with our results.”
CSUB's Friday schedule includes Luka Leskur competing in the 100 back and Hjorth and Michael Schwartz competing in the 100 fly.
