SAN DIEGO ? Able to get off just three shots in the 90-minute match, CSUB fell 3-0 to San Diego State in NCAA Division I women's soccer action Sunday.
The Aztecs scored a pair of goals midway through the first half and added an insurance goal in the second half, improving to 5-5-2 on the season.
Alicia Piz put SDSU on the board at the 21:17 mark, heading in a cross from Jackie Ragudos. Ten minutes later Ashley Omphroy struck a ball from 15 yards out, sending it into the net out of the reach of Roadrunners' freshman goalkeeper Jessica Padilla.
“The first two goals we gave up by making defensive mistakes,” said CSUB Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke. “We didn't track runs well today and (San Diego State) was dominant in the air.”
After giving up 10 shots to the Aztecs in the first half, CSUB limited ithem to just six in the second half. SDSU still managed to find the back of the net once more when Brooke Holliday connected on a pass from Ragudos for a 3-0 lead.
“San Diego State was first to every ball and worked extremely hard for the win,” said Van Dyke. “We lacked energy and spunk today.”
The ?Runners (2-9-1 overall), who have now been held scoreless in their past five matches, will look to find some offense on their home turf Friday against Houston Baptist. That match, the first in doubleheader with the men's team, kicks off at 5 p.m.
