Wright Recruits Trent to Volleyball's Coaching Staff

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield's Head Volleyball Coach Kristen Wright has completed her coaching staff for the upcoming season with the recruitment of Derrick Trent, who will assist the Roadrunners as an Assistant Coach.

"I'm elated to bring Derrick back home to his home roots," Wright said. "He can help us build Bakersfield back to what we both know it can be. Derrick is a decorated men's volleyball player and has an established experience at the D1 level to help elevate our program to new heights."

Trent arrives at Cal State Bakersfield with a wealth of coaching experience on his resume, including five years as the Head Coach at Westcliff University, where he also assisted the men's side. Additionally, Trent assisted his mother Cathy at Bakersfield High School for three years. Prior to that, he was a recruiting coordinator at UMBC and Jacksonville State.

An accomplished, former athlete himself, Trent provides firsthand knowledge of elite-level volleyball to the CSUB squad. Following his collegiate career, Trent played professionally in Slovenia for two years. He also played on the U.S. Youth National Team where he was ranked the top server in the NORCECA Championship. He committed to Long Beach State after winning a National Championship at Valencia High School during his senior year, where he was named an AVCA High School All-American.

Trent will oversee the Cal State Bakersfield setters' training and assist with offensive systems. He will also lead all technical and analytic coordination for the `Runners.
