Bakersfield Walks Off UCSD, 10-8, Behind Wilkes’ Ninth-Inning Blast

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — CSU Bakersfield erased a late deficit and delivered a dramatic walk-off victory Saturday night at Hardt Field, defeating UC San Diego 10-8 in Big West action.

Freshman Devon Wilkes provided the game’s defining moment, launching a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to cap a furious comeback and secure the Roadrunners’ 22nd win of the season (22-29, 10-16 Big West).

Trailing 8-4 entering the eighth inning, CSU Bakersfield chipped away with three runs to tighten the score. Kanoa Morisaki sparked the rally with a two-run double to left-center, and Yahir Acevedo followed with an RBI single to make it 8-7 heading into the final frame.

In the ninth, Jacob May and Evan Cloyd opened with back-to-back singles to set the stage for Wilkes, who delivered a no-doubt home run to right field, sealing the walk-off victory.

Jacob Gutierrez (5-3) earned the win in relief, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing three runs and helping stabilize the game after a UC San Diego surge. Connor Etnire (5-1) took the loss after surrendering the decisive home run in the ninth.
