  • This year’s Roadrunner squad features 17 returners and 26 newcomers.

  • The `Runners enter the week in the Top 3 in The Big West in runs, hits, RBI, HBP, stolen bases, and on-base percentage. 
• The CSUB lineup contributes to its high-powered offense with four different `Runners batting over .300, including team leader and Bakersfield native Evan Cloyd (.326 BA, 6 HR, 37 RBI). 
• The `Runners have enjoyed a standout rookie campaign by Devon Wilkes, whose 29 RBI this season is the most by a `Runner freshman since Bakersfield's inaugural season in 2009 (Martin Medina, 40 RBI).
• Earning a 20% increase in wins from 2024 to 2025 despite the fact that Banfield had to throw a schedule and a team together at the last minute, so CSUB is optimistic about the 2026 season outlook.

  • The teams have not come across each other but both share a common opponent this season in Westcliff, a squad that both teams earned wins against.
• Cal State LA overall score is at 25-20, having a conference score of 15-13.

• CSUB goes on the road for Big West competition:

• The `Runners will be facing the Highlanders for the 42nd time in the all-time series. 
  • Riverside is currently in the all-time series lead 22-19.  
  • Bakersfield made up some ground last year, taking 2-of-3 matches in the series.
• Last year, Bakersfield welcomed Riverside for a weekend showdown.
  • CSUB was able to secure the win against the Highlanders 2 days out of the 3, winning the first and last game of the weekend.

• The Cal State Bakersfield softball season continues as the squad stays home for the weekend to celebrate the softball seniors.  
• This year’s Roadrunner squad features 9 returners and 14 newcomers. 
• Marianna Narvaiz, Hannah Garcia, and Alexia Castro, bring the most experience back in the group of veteran `Runners. 
• A pair of `Runner freshmen – Kayla Whaley and Molly Gill – as well as veteran outfielder Aariana Harrison have been the offensive highlights for the squad thus far in the season. 
  • All three are batting over .300 with Harrison leading the way at .333.
• A freshman from Wasco, Calif. has been the go-to arm for the CSUB pitching staff this season in Cedes Saldana.

CSUB vs. UC Riverside

• CSUB will compete in three games over two days of action, including a doubleheader on Saturday.  
• The Roadrunners and Highlanders are long-time foes; they will be meeting for the 110th time in the all-time series.  
  • The `Runners first games against the Highlanders was back in 1985 in Riverside, Calif.  
  • CSUB is currently leading the all-time series, 65-43-1. 
• Last year the Highlanders' pitching was dominate during the first two games holding CSUB to a batting average of .095.  
  • In the series finale, the `Runners drove in three runs to make it a close game, but Bakersfield fell short within all three games during the weekend series and UC Riverside took the sweep.

• The Cal State Bakersfield beach volleyball team faces off against some of the best programs in the country this week at the Big West Championship. 
• Led by third-year Head Coach Andy Fulenwider, the 2026 edition of the Roadrunners features 11 returners and 7 newcomers. 
• Vivi Kaelin, Ella Ensign, and Katey Milne bring the most experience back in the solid group of veteran `Runners. 
  • Among several other newcomers, Fulenwider welcomed to the squad Kendall Kaelin, a graduate transfer who is the older sister of Vivi Kaelin. The siblings have paired together all season. 
• Cal State Bakersfield will be competing in the Big West Championship starting with Long Beach State.  

CSUB at Big West Championship 

• The `Runners are ready for the Big West Championship:

• Day 1 of the Big West Beach Volleyball Championship is set for Thursday as the Roadrunners will be competing in pool play in hopes of making it to Day 2 for bracket play.  
  • Bracket play features the top three finishers from each pool, and the Big West Champion will earn an automatic berth in the 2026 NCAA Championship.
• Second-seeded CSUB is scheduled to kick off the Championship against seventh-seed Long Beach State. The `Runners will then face either Hawai'i or Sacramento State depending on results.
  • LBSU has historically dominated the all-time series against CSUB, 23-0.
  • Earlier this season, the Beach handed CSUB a 5-0 loss during the Big West Challenge.
• Last year at the Big West Championship, CSUB pulled off a stunning uspet against No. 15 Hawai'i before eventually dropping matches against LBSU and CSUN.
• The Beach enters the tournament with an overall record of 22-10 and a 4-game winning streak.

• The Cal State Bakersfield track and field team continues to move forward with their busy season. The Roadrunners travel to the coast for the UCSB Invite hosted by UC Santa Barbara.  
• CSUB has 14 regular-season outdoor competitions on the schedule.    
• The Big West Track and Field Championships will take place May 15-16.    
• Newcomer Francisco Felix Jr holds the school record in the men’s 3,000m and is second all-time in the men’s 5,000m. 
• The women’s 4x100m relay team is second on the CSUB all-time list after running a 45.44.  
• Senior Javier Toro and Sophomore Makiah Parker are two returners who qualified for the NCAA West First Round’s last year. 
• Bakersfield has 17 athletes qualify for the Big West Championships in May including the reigning Big West champion in the 200m and runner-up in the 100m, Makiah Parker. 
• Javier Toro currently ranks second in the Big West for the hammer throw and fifth in the shot put.  
• He leads a strong studded squad of hammer throwers; they ranked sixth in the nation as a squad, the highest mark in program history.  

CSUB at UCSB Invite - Apr. 25 

• At 9:00 AM, the first event of the day will be the men’s hammer throw followed by the women’s HT. 
• On the track, the first event will be the women’s 4x100m relay.   
• The hammer throwers will have a quartet of men featuring Javier Toro who continues to lead the way for the `Runners. He is coming of a win in the event at the Leopard Invitational a week ago. Toro was joined by Adam Torres and Daniel Hartman who sealed the Roadrunner sweep in the event. They will be joined by Bakersfield native Tyler Balgeman in the hammer throw. 
• On the women’s side, Grace Pardon and Annie Amneus will both compete in the hammer throw.  
• Makiah Parker, Rionna Wallace, Teague Marzetta, and Chizi Okey-Dike will all toe the line in the women’s 100m and 200m. All four women will be in the 4x100m relay as well. Parker leads the squad in both sprint events and is coming off a huge performance in the 100m at the Mt. SAC Relays. The sophomore placed fourth overall with a headwind 11.64. It was the best time she’s had all season in the event despite the heavy wind. Wallace is coming off a fifth all-time performance in the 200m with a new PB of 24.23. 
• Emilia Mandela will be the lone `Runner in the women’s 100mH in which she continues to shine in. 
• Ivy Miller and Jaden Cutliff are set to compete in the 400mH. 
• Adeline Rangel and Julie Johnson will toe the line in women’s 400m and will be part of the women’s 4x400m relay squad. 
• Ethan Lavina and Skye Odom are ready for both horizontal jumps. 
• Rain Gomez has been putting up great performance in the middle distance. The Bakersfield native has three depth chart performances this season and will look to lower her personal best times in both the 800m and 1,500m this weekend.
