Roadrunners’ Late Defensive Stand Secures 62–58 Victory

CSU Bakersfield earned a 62–58 win over Cal Poly, closing the game strong at the free-throw line and holding Cal Poly without a field goal over the final 3:50.

The Roadrunners scored their final points with four seconds remaining when Marissa Langi converted two free throws to give CSU Bakersfield its final margin. The defense followed with a stop on Cal Poly’s final possession, securing the win.

Chrishawn Coleman led CSU Bakersfield with a game-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-17 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free-throw line in 35 minutes. Morgan Hawkins added 10 points, while Aliyah Carter contributed eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists in 37 minutes.

Bakersfield finished with 29 rebounds and forced 27 Cal Poly turnovers, turning those into 26 points. The Roadrunners went 21-of-30 from the free-throw line, accounting for 21 of their 62 points.

Bakersfield’s last field goal came at the 3:50 mark of the fourth quarter on a layup by Carter that extended the lead to 58–52. The Roadrunners’ largest lead of the game was seven points at 60–53 with 2:37 remaining, part of an 8–0 run.

The Roadrunners recorded nine assists and 16 steals, led by Hawkins with six steals. CSU Bakersfield held Cal Poly to 1-of-11 shooting from three-point range.

CSU Bakersfield secured the win with defensive rebounds in the final seconds following a missed three-point attempt by Cal Poly.
