CSUB Baseball Erupts Offensively in Dominant Win at Hardt Field

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team delivered an explosive performance at Hardt Field this evening, putting up eighteen runs over eight innings of offensive firepower while the pitching staff held strong with eight shutout innings. The Roadrunners' eighteen-run outburst ties for fourth all-time in program history for most runs in a single game and ranks third for team RBI in a game.

Lewis Barnum led the charge at the plate, driving in four runs to tie for the second-most RBI in a single game in CSUB history — a mark last reached in 2021 by Eric Charles. He’s in great company.

Bakersfield wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs over the first two innings. The bats came alive in the fourth, where the Roadrunners exploded for four more runs, highlighted by Noah Alvarez’s fifth double of the season.

Nick Mascaro had a breakout performance, collecting three RBI on two hits, including his first home run since early March — a two-run blast that stretched CSUB’s lead to 10–0 in the fifth. He was one of five Roadrunners with multiple RBI on the night, joined by four others who each knocked in two.

Not wanting to be left out, Evan Cloyd added to the fireworks with a solo home run in the very next inning, continuing the offensive momentum. CSUB tacked on three more runs in the seventh before capping the night with a four-run eighth inning to seal the blowout.

On the mound, the bullpen showed depth and control, rotating through seven different pitchers. Together, they struck out nine batters and surrendered only two hits and a single run across the evening — a nearly flawless showing.

Next up, the Roadrunners hit the road as they travel to Hawaii for their next series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 9:35 p.m. Hawaiian Time.
