Long Beach State took an early lead, scoring in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Bakersfield never backed down and pressured its visitor all the way to the end of the first half. Persistence paid off as the `Runners finally cracked the Beach defense with just 13 seconds left in the period. On a corner kick delivered by Cynthia Ramirez, CJ Walters headed home the service to tie the score just before the break.
CSUB rolled the momentum gained at the end of the first period right into the second and the `Runners surged ahead in the 54th minute. For the second time on the night, Ramirez sent a beautiful ball into the box and found the head of a teammate for a goal. This time around, Isis Salazar-Ortega put the ball past the Beach goalkeeper with what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Bakersfield held off the LBSU attack for the remainder of the game with `Runner keeper Kamy Anaya making six saves on the night.
CSUB heads back out on the road this weekend for another Big West clash at CSUN.
