`Runners Leap into 3rd Place after 2nd-Straight Victory

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Capping off a vital weekend that featured a pair of wins and Cal State Bakersfield outscoring its opponents 7-1, the Roadrunner women's soccer team earn three more points with a 3-0 road shutout against UC Riverside Sunday night. CSUB jumped up to a three-way tie for third place in The Big West standings with the victory as the `Runners look to continue a strong push toward another postseason run.

Fifth-year `Runner Kim Garcia scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 29th minute when she cleaned up a ricocheting ball and found the back of the net for the second time this season and the second time this week.

Just 24 seconds before the end of the first period, a Bakersfield corner kick bounced off the knees of a Highlander defender and into the net as the UCR own goal put the `Runners up 2-0.

In the 61st minute, Garcia connected a pass to Sara Ybarra who sent a perfect service into the middle of the box. CSUB's leading scorer, Cynthia Ramirez, sent the ball home past the UCR keeper for her fifth goal of the season, giving Bakersfield the 3-0 final score.

CSUB goalkeeper Kamy Anaya and the `Runner defense recorded its third shutout of the season while Anaya made three saves on the night.

CSUB (7-7-2, 4-3-1 Big West) has just two matches remaining in the regular season: Oct. 26 vs. Hawai'i and Oct. 30 vs. Cal State Fullerton. Both of those matches will be hosted in Bakersfield, so join us at the Main Soccer Field as the `Runners look to make a final push into the postseason.
