Melo Hires Cinthia Angus to Coach CSUB Volleyball

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield volleyball head coach Giovana Melo is excited to announce the addition of Cinthia Angus to the Roadrunner coaching staff. Angus joins CSUB after a successful coaching tenure at Loyola University Maryland, where she helped lead the Greyhounds to their best conference finish since 2013 and mentored a four-time Libero of the Year. Most recently, she has been serving as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Saint Mary's College of California, where she also played a key role in beach volleyball and program development.

"We are thrilled to welcome Cinthia to the Roadrunner family," said Melo. "She brings a wealth of experience as both an assistant and head coach. Cinthia is dedicated, knowledgeable, and values relationships. She is going to be a fantastic role model for our student-athletes, and we're excited to have her and her family join us."

Angus' coaching journey spans multiple levels and countries and includes stints at Saint Mary's, Loyola, Barry University, Snow College, and Durham University. At Barry, she helped guide the Buccaneers to two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, coached five All-Americans, and earned four AVCA Team Academic Awards. Angus also served as head coach at Snow and Durham, where she developed strong, lasting relationships with her players.

In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Angus recently contributed to the stability and performance of Saint Mary's volleyball program, where she served as Interim Head Coach for beach volleyball during a critical coaching transition. She oversaw practice plans, skill development, and match preparation, while also streamlining compliance processes, ensuring timely completion of recruitment and compliance forms for over 25 student-athletes. Angus' leadership helped increase social media engagement by 43.2% and she raised over $15,000 annually through successful fundraising initiatives. Her efforts also led to the creation of a quarterly newsletter that engaged 75% of alumnae with program updates and alumni achievements.

A standout student-athlete at the University of Utah, Angus helped the Utes win the Mountain West Conference in 2008 and reach the NCAA Sweet 16. She also has beach volleyball experience, competing on the AVP Next Tour, and brings a global perspective, having lived and competed internationally.

"I want to thank Cal State Bakersfield and Coach Melo for this incredible opportunity," said Angus. "The University's commitment to excellence and its student-athletes is exciting, and I look forward to contributing to their success both on and off the court. Go `Runners!"

Angus's diverse coaching background, leadership experience, and dedication to player development make her a perfect fit for the Roadrunner volleyball program as it continues to build toward new heights of success.
