Get to Know CSUB Men's Soccer: Midfielders

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – One week into the 2024 season, we are continuing our position-by-position breakdown of Head Coach Adam Grant's squad.

The Roadrunner men's soccer team is undefeated through their first two games, taking a 1-0 victory at home against Utah Tech before earning a road draw against San José State.

We want to introduce fans to the team, providing more insight into the person behind the name, number, and uniform. Next up in our position-by-position breakdown of the `Runner men's soccer team, meet Bakersfield's midfielders.

  • Grant on the `Runner midfielders: "The midfielders have been really good so far, really energetic. They can cover ground and that's really important. Along with Kevin Estrada, who has the most experience in the group, we've got some sophomores in there that are determined and got good experience last year. We also brought in three freshmen who will learn and they have been working very hard as a group."

    • 6-foot-3, sophomore
    • From Milton Keynes, England
    • Member of West Bromwich Albion Academy from 2021 to 2023 and Milton Keynes Dons Academy from 2016 to 2020
    • Played in 14 games in 2023, starting twice as a true freshman
    • Tallied four points on two goals last season
    • Named to All-Big West Freshman Team
    • Plans to major in kinesiology
  • #15 Sebastian Toppila (Newcomer)
    • 5-foot-8, freshman
    • From Bakersfield, Calif., went to Garces Memorial High School
    • Helped Rams win Valley and League titles in 2020 and 2021
    • Played in Spain junior year and then played in Costa Rica last two years for La Liga Deportiva's Alajuelense's U21 first division squad
    • Plans to major in biology

    • From Richmond, Calif., went to Leadership High School
    • Played in 30 matches as a Roadrunner so far

  • #19 Curtis Miley (Newcomer)
    • 6-foot-0, freshman
    • From Howrah, Tasmania, Australia
    • Studied at Rosny College
    • Member of the Tasmania State Team from 2017-2019, named team captain final two seasons
    • Competed in second-division of professional football in Tasmania and was named league's rising start in 2022
    • Plans to major in business management
  • #23 Adrian Jogerst (Returner)
    • 5-foot-8, sophomore
    • From Freiburg, Germany
    • Led club to Cup Championships in 2015 and 2023 prior to arrival at CSUB
    • Played in all 17 games in 2023, starting five as a true freshman
    • Tallied five points on two goals and an assist last season, all three of which were part of game winners
    • Named to Big West Freshman of the Week on Oct. 9
