Mautino Hat Trick Pushes CSUB Past #21 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – Playing its second exhibition against a ranked team in a span of four days, the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team earned a 3-1 road win against UCLA on Monday night. Senior forward Connor Mautino tallied a hat trick as the Roadrunners built up a 3-0 lead against the Bruins, who were recently ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 poll.

Mautino, an NCAA Division II transfer to CSUB a year ago, opened the scoring in the eighth minute on a quick turnaround blast inside the box. The two teams went to halftime with a 1-0 score before Bakersfield's leading scorer from 2023 tallied his second goal of the night in the 75th minute. Mautino sent home a penalty kick opportunity to make the score 2-0. Five minutes later, he completed the hat trick by driving the ball down the wing, cutting inside, and beating the UCLA keeper.

The Bruins, who went deep into their benches just the same as the `Runners did in the exhibition, tallied their lone goal of the night with less than 90 seconds remaining.

Bakersfield still has one exhibition match remaining before embarking on the 2024 season officially. The `Runners will host their final friendly at the Main Soccer Field in Bakersfield on Friday, Aug. 16, when The Master's University comes to town. CSUB's tune-up match will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
