Bakersfield Releases 2024 Men's Soccer Schedule

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The summer is halfway gone as Season Two approaches for Adam Grant, Head Coach of the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team. Under Grant's direction as the Interim Head Coach in 2023, the Roadrunners excelled despite fielding a young team. CSUB will be looking to continue that momentum into 2024 as Grant has announced the schedule for the season ahead.

"We are really looking forward to the season. We are excited to have a great group of returners that were able to get good experience as freshmen last year in The Big West,"  Grant said. "Looking into this year, they know what division I looks like, regular season looks like, and how competitive The Big West is."

"They worked extremely hard in the Spring to be at the level of what we need them to be going into this Fall," Grant continued.

The `Runners will test their mettle with a trio of early-August exhibitions. Bakersfield will gain valuable insight to its strengths and weaknesses in these preseason matches, which include a trip to UCLA (Aug. 12), which made the NCAA Tournament in 2023, as well as hosting LMU (Aug. 9), the team that knocked UCLA out of the Championship on the way to the quarterfinals.

The 2024 regular season kicks off on Aug. 22 when CSUB plays host to Utah Tech at the Main Soccer Field. A three-match road trip will see the `Runners making stops at San José State, California Baptist, and Portland. The road trip finale features the Pilots, who were ranked as high as No. 5 in the country last season and were recently lauded with the third-best recruiting class in the country, according to TopDrawerSoccer.

After hosting UNLV (Sept. 11) and Fresno Pacific (Sept. 17), Grant's squad will close out the non-conference slate with stops at Gonzaga (Sept. 21) and Pacific (Sept. 26).
"We have some really big games this Fall, we are traveling to Portland, Gonzaga, CBU, and San Jose. All these teams that we play away from home are really good and that prepares us well for The Big West conference," Grant said. "There are some difficult yet enjoyable games, that our team will learn a lot from as they go into conference play."

October will welcome Big West play to Bakersfield as the `Runners kick off the second half of their schedule at home, Oct. 2, for their annual Education Day match against Sacramento State. CSUB will then travel to defending Big West Champion Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 5 before hosting another pair of league matches.

The final six matches of the season will alternate between home and away with CSUB's final home game set for Oct. 26 against UC Riverside. The `Runners will hit the road to Cal Poly to face the Mustangs in the regular season finale on Nov. 2.

Cal State Bakersfield's goal of winning the Big West Championship, Nov. 6-16, will be on the line as will an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship. After finishing just one point outside of qualifying for the tournament a year ago, the `Runners are anxious to take a more experienced squad into the postseason.

"The community is massively important. Bakersfield is such a great soccer town," said Grant. "Having the fans is one of the biggest parts going into a season, it's that excitement that people want to come out and watch us play and support Cal State Bakersfield."
