Three Roadrunners Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2024 Academic All-District teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. Cal State Bakersfield excitedly announces three Roadrunner baseball scholar-athletes who earned the distinction on Tuesday.

Bakersfield stand out, Nick Salas wrapped up his senior year as a Roadrunner, earning Academic All-District to cap off his season. Along with this academic accomplishment, Salas reset multiple CSUB records, finishing up the season first in batting average (.291), walks (108, finished first in CSUB history), and runs (34).

Cody Hendriks was the next `Runner who achieved Academic All-District, posting a 3.84 as well as having a stellar performance on the field. The junior wrapped up his season first on the team in at bats and hits, being an essential part of the CSUB lineup each week.

Friday night starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo was the last `Runner to receive this award due to his work in the classroom and on the field. Being Bakersfield's best pitcher, Verdugo reset records left and right in his junior year. He was a stand out player not only for CSUB but also for the Big West as well. Earning back to back Big West Pitcher of the week awards, posting a conference high of 89.1 innings, finished fourth in the Big West with an ERA 2.72 and third with 93 strike outs all during the regular season.

Academic All-District and All-America

Nominated student-athletes must meet the minimum athletic requirements of being a starter or important reserve. Academically, candidates must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA and they must have been at their current institution for at least a year (an exception is made for graduate transfers).

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.
