Bakersfield Bats Come Alive in Fifth Inning; Defeat Gauchos in Five Innings

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Bakersfield earns their second conference win this weekend, today over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos following an offensive explosion in the fifth inning.

CSUB went down early 2-0 after the Gauchos hit a single and a home run in the second and third inning. Dani Hunter cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth to make it 2-1 following a single up the middle to score Maya Williams.

The fifth inning started with a bang, back-to-back jacks by Shaylene Fuimaono and Natalya Rodriguez got the `Runners rolling as they were now up 3-2. Cal State Bakersfield didn't stop there, pouring it on in the fifth inning tallying nine more runs following the home runs. Bakersfield strung together singles and doubles to take a 13-2 lead in the fifth.

With the Roadrunners winning 12-3 today, it is their first run-rule victory since March 17, 2023 when they defeated the UC San Diego Tritons 10-2.
