CSUB Alum Skuija Continues Pro Journey with Savannah Bananas

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Since graduating from Cal State Bakersfield in 2021, Roadrunner baseball alumnus Ethan Skuija has pursued his passion by traveling the world as a professional baseball player. Most recently, Skuija was signed to the Savannah Bananas, a wildly-popular franchise that has produced a fast-paced, high-octane form of baseball akin to what the Harlem Globetrotters have done for basketball.

After spending three seasons at CSUB, Skuija embarked on a professional journey that saw the right-handed pitcher play in Europe, Australia, and Japan. During the 2022 season, Skuija split time between Cezch Republic and Australia where he led both leagues in strikeouts, fanning an impressive 382 batters combined, which the Bananas boldly claim were the most “in the universe” that year.

`Runner fans are all too familiar with Skuija’s strikeout prowess. The Washington native still ranks in CSUB’s Top 10 all-time career strikeouts list despite having played just three seasons in Bakersfield, one of which was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his newest endeavor, Skuija has joined the Savannah Bananas, a baseball movement that has rapidly swept the nation. The ball club has produced hundreds of millions of views on social media with their choreographed dances, epic scoring celebrations, legendary walk-ups, and a fast-paced and exciting brand of ball that is fun for the whole family. The Bananas have sold out every game they have played this season, including a six-game California road trip to Fresno and Sacramento this coming May.

A member of the Georgia-based squad for just the last few months, Skuija has already started to make an impact with the team and on fans all while still wearing the same #37 on his jersey as he did as a `Runner. The Bakersfield alum has gained notoriety for moments like the “Tornado Pitch”, his mime strikeout celebration, and throwing a home run at an MLB ballpark.

Skuija joins a long list of `Runner alumni to compete in professional baseball while making his alma mater proud. To stay up-to-date with Skuija’s journey, follow him (@ethanskuija) and the Bananas (@theSavBananas) on social media.

Be sure to come out to Hardt Field this season to catch more future professional `Runners in action while they still compete for Bakersfield. Season tickets and single-game tickets are available now at GoRunners.com/Tickets or by calling the ticket office at 661-654-BLUE or 661-654-GOLD.
