Grant Releases 2023 CSUB Men's Soccer Slate

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2023 Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer season is just around the corner and Head Coach Richie Grant has announced the Fall schedule of matches. The Roadrunners will enjoy a hearty preseason and a challenging non-conference slate in order to prepare for another run at a Big West title and a return to the postseason.

CSUB will kick the season off with three exhibitions, hosting Life Pacific and California Baptist at home in early August before facing a tough test on the road at UCLA on Aug. 19.

Bakersfield's official season opener is set for Aug. 24 at the Main Soccer Field, which will host many familiar faces. The `Runners will welcome back former Head Coach Simon Tobin and his new squad, San José State, to kickstart the year with an exciting clash.

The `Runners will host two other non-conference matches, welcoming Pacific on Sept. 3 and Fresno Pacific the following weekend. Bakersfield's road match slate will be challenging, setting Bakersfield up to be battle-tested before the start of Big West play in late September.

The league slate kicks off with back-to-back road games, Sept. 27 and 30, at Sacramento State and CSUN. The `Runners will host their Big West home opener on Oct. 4 vs. UC Irvine in what is slated for an Education Day experience for local school children.

Bakersfield will round out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 28, with a home match against Cal Poly. CSUB's efforts to that point will determine if its standing in the league table has earned one of the Top 6 spots and a place in the Big West Championship, set for opening round matches at the start of November.

Cal State Bakersfield's men's soccer team took a step back during the 2022 season after placing fourth in the league standings the year prior. Grant returns a handful of experienced `Runners and he and his staff have been hot on the recruiting trail looking for new `Runners to fill out the 2023 roster.
