Richardson Named Big West Field Athlete of the Week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Big West announced its final Track and Field Athlete of the Week honorees of the season on Tuesday, May 9. Junior Thomas Richardson has been named Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career. His mark of 54'02" in the shot put at Oxy Invitational was good for first overall. Richardson also placed sixth in the hammer throw in a deep field.

He becomes the third Roadrunner this season selected for conference Athlete of the Week honors. Other winners from earlier this season were Miranda Miller and Riley Slayton.

Richardson is the first male CSUB field athlete honored for the award and the second overall Bakersfield honored since joining the league in 2021. Previous honoree was Curtis Threlkeld on Mar. 8 of 2022.

The Shafter, Calif. native currently ranks sixth overall in the Big West in the shot put and seventh in the hammer throw.

The `Runners are prepping for The Big West Track and Field Championships this weekend, May 12-13. Last season, Richardson placed top five in both the shot put and hammer throw. He looks to build off the momentum from this weekend and carry it in the conference championships.
