CSUB Welcomes Ohio State for Three Game Series

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team is coming off a tough series versus #2 Stanford, and now comes home welcoming Ohio State. CSUB was competitive versus the Cardinal and looks to get back on track in a three-game set with the Buckeyes.

    • Friday, March. 10, 6:05 p.m.

`Runner Notes
  • CSUB is currently 7 – 5 after the #2 Stanford series.
  • Angel Saldivar is arguably one of the best bats in the lineup right now. Saldivar is batting .278 with ten hits, four doubles, nine RBI, a home run, .472 slugging percentage, .372 on-base percentage, and only four strikeouts.
  • Fellow teammate, Riley Kasper, could also be entered into the conversation for best bat. Kasper has thirteen hits while batting .289, with four doubles, and four RBI.
  • Left fielder and DH, James Bell, is seemingly getting into a groove. Bell started the year off a bit sluggish, despite leading the team in RBI and 2nd in hits. He finished the final two games of the Stanford series going 4-for-9 (.444 BA).
  • Nick Salas has been getting on base at a high rate (.469). Salas leads the team with thirteen walks and enters this weekend with a twelve-game reached base streak.
Scouting the Buckeyes
  • Ohio State (5-6) comes to Bakersfield going 3 – 2 in their last five games.
  • The Buckeye pitching staff has an ERA of 5.81. Junior pitcher, Isaiah Coupet, has started three games and fosters a .50 ERA in 18 innings of work, while striking out 27 batters. Coupet currently has a 13.5 K/9 and opponents are batting only .127 when facing Coupet.
  • The OSU offense is seemingly led by Nick Erwin and Marcus Ernst. Erwin is batting .308 with 12 hits, leads the team in RBI (11), and a .462 slugging percentage. Ernst is batting .302, and leads the team in hits (13) and home runs (3). He is slugging .535 and has an on-base percentage of .412; although he also leads the team in strikeouts (13).
