LONG BEACH, Calif. – First official track meet of the season for the Cal State Bakersfield track and field teams ended with success. The Roadrunners competed at the Beach Opener on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 3-4. CSUB saw 13 top-eight finishes and six all-time marks in program history.

Top `Runner Performers
- The men's hammer throwers opened the meet on Friday with four top-eight finishers. Matthew Garrett led the charge with a fourth-place finish throw of 195'10" and is now #11 in program history. Fellow teammates Thomas Richardson (sixth place), Axel Salazar (seventh place), and Javier Toro (eighth place) followed closely behind Garrett.
- On Saturday, Richardson and Garrett had great results in the shot put with two top-five finishes. Richardson finished fourth with a throw of 53'7". While Garrett threw a 52'5.5" to finish in fifth.
- Jacob Yagers completed the men's 1500-meter race in 4:02.83, Yagers now holds the #20 spot in school history.
- Julia Stein continued her big performances in the hurdles. She finished fifth overall in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.42. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, she received a personal record and moves up to #4 all-time at CSUB.
- Riley Slayton won the women's 400-meter hurdles after finishing the race in 1:00.65.
- In the women's 3,000-meter race, Helena Valentic finished third overall. Valentic's 10:19.18 time is good for #6 all-time in the event.
- In back-to-back years, Miranda Miller won the pole vault with a jump of 12'11.5".
- Julie Johnson finished the 400-meter race in 58.53 seconds, good for second overall in the event.
