LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal State Bakersfield Track & Field program completed the 2026 Big West Championships on Saturday evening. The Roadrunners took home a total of four medals across both programs and two school records were broken over the championship weekend.
Javier Toro highlighted day one of competition as he took home silver in the men's hammer throw. The senior recorded a 65.66m (215'5"). Toro finished the day with a seventh place finish in the men's shot pot after throwing a 16.92m (55'6.25"). He earned a total of 10 points for the program across his two events. Toro is a four-time finalist in the hammer throw throughout his time representing the blue and gold.
Teammate Adam Torres joined Toro in the men's hammer throw final. Torres placed eighth overall with a mark of 57.35m (188'2").
Grace Padron placed seventh in the women's hammer throw after throwing a 52.75m (173'0"). Padron earned two points for CSUB.
Bakersfield returned for day two of action. Led by a stellar performance by sophomore Makiah Parker, she captured three medals on the day.
Parker anchored the women's 4x100m relay team to a silver place finish. Teammates Rionna Wallace, Chizi Okey-Dike and Teague Marzetta joined Parker in the relay. The women became the first relay team in Division I program history to medal in a championship meet after crossing the line in 45.25.
Parker claimed her second individual Big West title in the women's 100m on Saturday. The day prior in the prelim's she broke her own school record in the event after clocking in a wind-legal time of 11.35. Parker captured the gold on Saturday by crossing the finish line in 11.38. She now has two Big West titles under her belt after becoming the first Roadrunner freshman in the DI era to win and individual title in any championship meet just a year ago.
The sophomore returned in the women's 200m with a second place finish after running a 23.26. Parker now has a total of five championship medals. With a total of 18 individual points, Parker helped the `Runners score a total of 26 points with the silver in the relay race.
Teammate Rionna Wallace also had a successful day two of competition after qualifying for the finals in both the 100m and 200m. Wallace placed sixth in the women's 100m (11.71) and the women's 200m (23.73). She earned a total of six individual points for CSUB.
Emilia Mandela represented the program in the women's 100mH finals. Mandela finished in sixth place after crossing the line in a new school record time of 13.63.
Jacob Yagers placed sixth in the men's 1,500m final with a time of 3:49.63. A Bakersfield native, this was Yagers third straight final in the event across his career representing his hometown. He earned three points for the program.
