Roadrunners Earn Multiple Personal Bests at Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield track and field program had multiple athletes earn season bests at the West Coast Relays, hosted by Fresno State on Thursday and Friday, Mar. 30-31. The Roadrunners continued another week of competition and saw success across the board. Miranda Miller and Helena Valentic each won their event.

Top `Runner Performers

On Thursday, Matthew Garrett placed second in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 189'0". Teammate Javier Toro, finished near in fourth place with a throw of 183'0".
Helena Valentic opened the day on Friday with the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Valentic had a first-place finish and season best time of 11:13.40. She is 10 seconds shy of the school record, held by Alyssa Lewis in 2007 (11:03.21).
Jacob Yagers and Matthew Berry ran the 1,500-meters in a deep field. Yagers placed 5^th with a time of 3:59.38. Berry with a personal record of 4:00.77, finished in 8^th place.
In a tight race, Julie Johnson completed the 400-meter race in 7^th place with a time of 56.60.
Six competitions on the season and six wins for Miranda Miller. Miller placed first place yet again in the women's pole vault. Her mark of 13'06"50 is a season best.
Riley Slayton ran the 400-meter hurdles and placed second overall with a time of 1:01.20.
Tom Richardson and Matthew were close together in the men's shot put. Richardson finished in third with a mark of 53'07.75. Garrett was in fourth place with a throw of 53'06.25".
Noah Wright completed the men's high jump in eighth place and personal best mark of 6'02".
In the men's long jump, Jesus Alvarez jumped a season best mark of 21'09". Alvarez finished eighth overall.
Skyblue Gonzalez earned a PR of 50.12 in the men's 400-meter race.
For the women's 200-meters, Nerissa Thompson had a personal best time of 25.88.
