Bakersfield Takes on #2 Team in Nation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team is headed up north for a battle with Stanford, the #2 team in the country. CSUB went 3 – 1 over the weekend versus Manhattan, starting the season with a 7 – 2 record. The `Runners pitching staff will be tested as they face a very tough offense.

`Runner Notes
  • CSUB's weekend series win against Manhattan is putting the `Runners in a great start to the year. They are currently 7-2, which is the best start to a season Bakersfield has had under Coach Beard. ****
  • Over the weekend James Bell recorded four hits, including a Grand Slam, and had a total of seven RBI.
  • Entering this weekend, the Roadrunners pitching staff ranks third in the country in team ERA (1.44), sitting behind #3 Tennessee and #5 Wake Forest.
  • Junior lefty, Matt Comnos, and Sophomore, Ryan Verdugo, are tied for first in best individual ERA (0.00) in the country. The two Bakersfield pitchers have both made two appearances, Comnos has thrown 13 innings, and Verdugo 12.1 innings.
  • Angel Saldivar is starting to heat up at the dish, in four games versus Manhattan, the Redshirt Junior had seven hits in fifteen at bats. He batted .466 over the weekend and boosted his batting average from .182 to .346. Saldivar also has 1.067 OPS.
