Mutai Starts Valley Invitational Strong

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After a slow start on a cold, misty morning at Bakersfield Country Club, the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners rebounded for a much improved second round at the annual Valley Invitational, presented by Chick-fil-A. Sarah Mutai led the `Runners and the freshman sits tied for 11th on the leaderboard after 36 holes of competition.

Notables

Six of seven `Runners competing improved their scores from Round 1 to Round 2, including each member of the Starting 5.
As a team, Bakersfield needed 13 less strokes in the second round (305) compared to the team's first-round result (318).
CSUB is tenth in the team standings after Day 1, just four strokes behind fellow Big West member Cal State Fullerton.

Day 1

Mutai dropped off a first-round scorecard of 76 (+4). After posting a 74 in Round 2, Mutai came back to the clubhouse with a two-round total of 150 strokes (+6). The freshman sits just three strokes back of a two-way tie for second on the individual leaderboard.
Arlene Salvador tallied a pair of rounds in the 70s to finish the day at 155 (79-76), second-best among the `Runners.
Aufa Rachmadya, playing her first tournament of the season after overcoming a wrist injury in the Fall, finished third for CSUB with 159 strokes (80-79).
Iris Han's 83 rounded out CSUB's Scoring 4 in Round 1 before she finished with an 81 in Round 2. Jefi Dordevic started out slow with an 84 in the first go-around, but she rebounded nicely with a 76 to close out the day.
Christy Mae Saban (84-81-165) and Gillian Galicia (83-90-173) competed as individuals on Monday.
