Bakersfield Wraps Up Sunbird Invite With Success

FRESNO, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield track and field outdoor teams competed at the Sunbird Invitational as preseason tune up on Saturday with great performances across the board. Multiple Roadrunners won their respective events as they prepared for the 2023 outdoor season in two weeks at the Beach Opener.

Top `Runner Performers

Julia Stein finished first overall in the 100-meter hurdles race. Stein's time of 14.74 was just short of personal best of 14.53. Jaztyn Greer and Riley Slayton shortly followed Stein placing third and fourth in the race.
Slayton, Stein, and Greer competed in the 400-meter hurdles race. Slayton won the race with a time of 1:01.83, just missing out on her best of 60.33. Stein finished in second with a personal best of 1:02.45. Greer finished in fourth place.
Julie Johnson was the lone `Runner in the 400m race. She finished 7^th overall and with a personal best of 57.98, just missing the CSUB top 20 mark of 57.64.
Jacob Yagers debut for Bakersfield was in the 1500m where he completed the race with a time of 4:03.93 and 14^th overall out of 53 athletes. He just missed out on the CSUB top 20 all-time list.
Jesus Alvarez and Noah finished first and second in the high jump with heights of 6-04.00 and 6-02.00.
Javier Toro won the hammer throw with a personal best. Axel Salazar finished in second place. Toro completed the shot put with a personal best and a second place finish.
Helena Valentic ran the twelfth fastest 3000m in CSUB history. She finished the race with a time of 10:28.84, placing sixth overall.
To close out the evening, the women's 4x400m relay team featuring Riley Slayton, Julia Stein, Jaztyn Greer, and Julie Johnson won the race, posting a time of 3:58.85.
