Nomar Garciaparra Headlines CSUB Hot Stove Dinner

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield Athletics Department is excited to announce that the ninth annual Hot Stove Dinner will be held on Friday, January 26th, 2024. The event always serves as an outstanding evening for fans and the community to both meet and support the Roadrunner Baseball team. This year our Featured Guest will be six-time MLB All-Star, 1997 AL Rookie of the Year, and current LA Dodgers TV analyst, Nomar Garciaparra.

The Hot Stove Dinner will be held at the Kern County Fairgrounds. The evening includes an introduction to the 2024 Roadrunner baseball scholar-athletes and coaches, dinner, open bar, a Q&A with Nomar Garciaparra, and an auction for items such as sports memorabilia, vacation getaways, gourmet meals, and more.

Garciaparra was an LA Dodger for three seasons from 2006-2008. In 2006, he earned an All-Star selection and helped the Dodgers reach the postseason. He was also named National League Comeback Player of the Year with the Dodgers during the same year. During his three seasons in LA, Garciaparra had 35 home runs and 180 RBI.

Garciaparra played 14 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, and A's. He posted a .313 batting average, along with 229 home runs and 936 RBI. Along with his All-Star performances and ROTY honors, the Whittier, CA native was named 1999 and 2000 American League batting champion.

In 2014, Garciaparra was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame and the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame in the Dominican Republic. He will be remembered from his May 10, 1999, performance against the Seattle Mariners where he became the 11th MLB player to hit two grand slams in a single game. There are just 13 players in history who have achieved this feat.

After an extensive career in the MLB, Garciaparra worked at ESPN from 2011-2013, appearing on Baseball Tonight, MLB game telecasts and covering the College World Series and the Little League World Series.
