Goalkeeper Dadone Named Big West Player of the Week

Irvine, Calif. – California State University, Bakersfield junior goalkeeper Filippo Dadone was named The Big West Defensive Player of the Week, Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference offices. Dadone made eight stops and allowed just a single goal over the weekend, leading the Roadrunners to a 2-0-0 record and evening the team's record at 2-2-0 on the year.

"Filippo is off to a solid start and has the trust of his teammates," said CSUB Head Coach Richie Grant. "We were really pleased with how he played this weekend, and how the team played to help him earn two wins, and a shutout of Gonzaga."

Dadone is playing his first season in Bakersfield, after spending two years at the University of Turin and more than a decade with the Juventus Youth Academy. The Cuneo, Italy, native has started all four games this season for the 'Runners.

Dadone made six saves in a Rowdy Run win over Grand Canyon last Thursday, including six stops in the second half as CSUB held on for a 2-2 victory.

On Saturday, he made a pair of stops, including a dazzling fingertip save in the second half. He also forced a Gonzaga PK off the right goal post in the team's 1-0 win.

Dadone is the first conference Defensive Player of the Week selection since, fellow netminder Scott Pengelly earned the honor as a freshman in 2021. Aodhan O'Hara was also honored in 2021, as the league's Offensive Player of the Week.

Dadone and the Roadrunners look to stretch their current winning streak to three games when they host visiting Utah Tech, Thursday night at 7 p.m., on the Main Soccer Field.
