Melo Welcomes Lazarony as Director of Operations

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Fall season is swiftly approaching and Giovana Melo, Head Coach of the CSU Bakersfield indoor volleyball team, is putting the finishing touches on preparations to lead her squad into another year of battle. One of the final details Melo has settled is the hiring of Alex Lazarony as the Roadrunners' Director of Volleyball Operations.

Lazarony comes to Bakersfield after graduating with a master's degree from The Ohio State University, where she gained years of valuable experience assisting the Athletics Department while completing her education. After spending a year with the Ohio State women's volleyball team as a student assistant, Lazarony spent the last two years as a student manager for the Buckeye softball program.

"We are so excited to welcome Alex to our `Runner family," Melo said of her most recent hire. "She is going to be an extremely valuable addition to our staff. She is a very eager and dedicated young woman who is going to make an immediate impact in our program. We feel like we found the perfect fit for the culture of our program."

In her two seasons assisting the Ohio State softball coaching staff, Lazarony was responsible for filming games and practices for video review as well as tracking statistics. She also worked under the direction of the coaching staff to help with softball operations.

Lazaraony obtained her master's of science in Kinesiology, Sport Management from Ohio State in 2022. She also earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Industry, Non-Professional General Legal Studies from the University in 2021.

Melo, Lazarony, and the rest of the `Runners are busily preparing to kick off the 2022 season at the end of August. The first team practice is just around the corner and Bakersfield will be fighting for its first Big West title by the time September is over.
