Men's Soccer Announces 2022 Schedule

Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men's soccer coach Richie Grant announced the program's 2022 schedule, Monday. The Roadrunners will play ten homes games, including five against Big West opponents in their second season as members of the conference. CSUB finished fourth in their inaugural Big West season, hosting a league quarterfinal match up against UC Davis at the Main Soccer Field.
 
Bakersfield will open the year with a trio of exhibition contests, beginning Aug. 11 at home against Cal State LA at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles finished the 2021 season with an 18-2-3 overall record, capturing both the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship and the NCAA Division II National Championship.
 
CSUB will also square off in a neutral site scrimmage with Cal on Aug. 14, before closing out the exhibition season at Loyola Marymount on Aug. 19.
 
The Roadrunners will open the 2022 regular season with trips to San Jose State and Pacific, after hosting each school during the 2021 campaign. Bakersfield will also travel to California Baptist and Portland during the non-conference season.
 
CSUB will host four non-conference contests at the Main Soccer Field in 2022, including a visit from 2022 NCAA Tournament participant Grand Canyon on Sept. 1 at 7:00 p.m. The 'Runners will also welcome Gonzaga, Utah Tech and San Francisco to Bakersfield.  
 
An Education Day matinee with Sacramento State will kick off the Big West portion of the schedule on Sept. 28. CSUB will host the Hornets, as well as UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, CSUN and UC Riverside in conference competition this season. The Oct. 22 game with UC Riverside will serve as the program's annual Senior Day competition.
 
Bakersfield will visit Big West foes Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, UC Irvine and Cal Poly in 2022.
 
The conference tournament will begin with quarterfinal matchups scheduled for Nov. 2, followed by semifinal games on Nov. 6, and the Big West Championship game on Nov. 12.
 
The NCAA Tournament will open on Nov. 17.
 
The Roadrunners were 6-10-1 in 2021, including a 5-4-0 mark in Big West Conference play.
 
Team captains Carlos Armendariz and Harry Downing both return from last season's club. Armendariz is Bakersfield's top-returning scorer with four goals and nine points, while Downing started all 17 games at centerback.
 
All Big West Freshman Team selection Bryson Hankins and Trinidad & Tobago national Stephon Marcano also return for CSUB.
