Figueroa Signs NLI with CSUB Baseball

Bakersfield, Calif. – Right-handed pitcher Ryan Figueroa has signed a National Letter of Intent with CSU Bakersfield baseball, head coach Jeremy Beard announced Tuesday. Figueroa has spent the past two seasons competing for South Mountain Community College, where he pitched out of the bullpen and the rotation for the Cougars, following a standout career at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz.

"Ryan joins us from an elite junior college program, having faced competition that will prepare him for the level of play in the Big West," said CSUB Head Coach Jeremy Beard. "We're extremely happy to have him join our pitching staff and expect he'll make an immediate impact. It's a great day to be a 'Runner."

Figueroa is a 6-3, 190-pound righty with a low arm-slot delivery and made 24 appearances over two years at SMCC, working 80.2 innings with a 3.68 earned run average, a 10-2 record and 93 strikeouts against just 19 bases on balls. He made 11 starts in 14 outings during a sophomore campaign that saw him fan 10.23 opponents per nine innings and boast four and a half strikeouts for every walk allowed.

As a freshman, Figueroa pitched to a 1.84 earned run average, won three games and picked up a save while working as a reliever for the Cougars.

Figueroa will pitch for the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League, where he's made two appearances and one start. In his lone start, he pitched 4.0 innings, allowing just three hits and an earned run, while striking out a pair in a no-decision against the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Figueroa will join the Roadrunners for the 2022-23 campaign and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
