Miller Belts League Leading 10th Home Run; Bakersfield Swept in San Luis Obispo

San Luis ObispoAJ Miller belted his Big West leading 10th home run of the season to tie the game in the sixth inning, but Cal Poly responded with two in the seventh for a 4-2 win and a series sweep of CSU Bakersfield at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obsipo, Calif.

"We played better as the weekend went along," said CSUB Head Coach Jeremy Beard. "Benji, Kenny and Cody threw the ball very well, but we made a couple mistakes behind them and didn't string together enough quality plate appearances to get the runs we needed."

Caggianelli made his first start since taking the loss at UC Davis on April 8 and worked the first 4.2 innings allowing just a pair of hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and walked three, making his only mistake on a 1-0 fastball to Cal Poly catcher Ryan Stafford.

Stafford homered to give the Mustangs an early lead and capped an excellent weekend with a 3-for-4 day, including three runs driven in.

Kenny Johnson and Cody Tucker provided 3.1 innings of relief without allowing an earned run to keep CSUB in the game.

The Roadrunners tied the score on AJ Miller's long home run high over the fence in right centerfield. Miller was 2-for-3 with a walk and drove in both CSUB runs.

James Bell was 3-for-4 with a double and Aaron Casillas added a single and a double for his third multi-hit effort of the weekend.

Johnson took his third loss of the season when a pair of unearned runs gave the Mustangs the lead in the seventh.

Ryan Sheedy improved to 3-2 with the win for Cal Poly.

How It Happened...
B2 | Collin Villegas singled to lead off the second inning and Ryan Stafford followed with a long home run to left centerfield to give Cal Poly an early 2-0 lead.

T6 | AJ Miller evened the score when he belted his 10th home run of the season high over the fence in right centerfield. James Bell scored on the play after leading off the inning with his second single of the game.

B7 | The Mustangs moved back in front 4-2 in the seventh thanks to a series of defensive misplays from the Roadrunners. Reagan Doss reached on an error and advanced to third when a shallow fly ball from Brooks Lee got caught up in the wind and found grass in shallow center. Joe Yorke gave Cal Poly the lead with a sharp single through the right side before Stafford picked up his third RBI with a single through short.

Notable...
Benji Caggianelli rebounded following four straight subpar outings with a strong start Sunday. Caggianelli worked 4.2 innings, allowing only consecutive hits to open the second inning and a pair of earned runs, his longest outing since March 25 against Utah Valley.

AJ Miller became just the second Roadrunner in program history to hit double digit home runs in a single season. Miller has four homers in his last six games and has homered at least once in each of the last four series. He trails only Martin Medina on CSUB's single-season home run list. Medina belted 12 long balls during the 2010 season.

• Miller also doubled and walked, recording his 15th multi-hit game of the season. James Bell had three hits for his 10th multi-hit effort.

• Shortstop Aaron Casillas was 7-for-12 in the series with three doubles, and now has a double in each of his last four starts.

On Deck...
Bakersfield returns home following a six-game road trip, welcoming Big West rival Long Beach State to Hardt Field for the first time as conference opponents. The Roadrunners dropped two of three in Long Beach a season ago.
