CSUB Softball Readies for Senior Day, UC Riverside

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Senior Weekend has arrived for the CSU Bakersfield softball team as the Roadrunners are preparing to send off three seniors playing their final collegiate games. CSUB will welcome UC Riverside to the Roadrunner Softball Complex, May 13-14, as Bakersfield celebrates Cieana Curran, Kayla Tadewosian, and Cydney Curran during the three-game series.

CSUB (8-34, 3-21 Big West) is wrapping up its first official season competing in the Big West and the `Runners have recently returned from a road series against one of the two teams tied for the league lead, Long Beach State. Bakersfield was swept by the Beach last weekend, but the `Runners gave LBSU all it could handle in Saturday's doubleheader, dropping a pair of tight contests, 3-0 and 3-2.

The `Runners have looked to sixth-year senior Cydney Curran to lead the way all season. The shortstop has a team-best .299 batting average and is an integral part of the CSUB defense, which is ranked among the Top 5 in the nation in double plays per game.

In the circle, Bakersfield has a trio of young pitchers who are growing week by week. Freshman Reina Castillo has been the workhorse of the pitching staff, leading the squad with 22 starts and 129.2 innings pitched.

UC Riverside (22-24, 13-11 Big West) came into the week in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Big West standings. The Highlanders will come to Bakersfield with momentum after taking 2-of-3 games at home against UC Santa Barbara, the same squad the `Runners bested in 2-of-3 games on the road earlier this year.

The weekend series will kick off on Friday, May 13, with a doubleheader in Bakersfield. Both days of competition are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start with a short Senior Day Ceremony scheduled ahead of Saturday's single game.
