`Runners at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's track and field prepare for another meet in another California city – this weekend in Claremont. The Roadrunners will compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

The program is coming off its sixth outdoor meet that produced seven CSUB depth chart performances, as well as redshirt sophomore Miranda Miller's fifth pole vault win of the season.

Miranda Miller posted her fifth mark over four meters in 2022. Her jump of 4.15m last week is her second best mark this year.  She currently leads the Big West Conference at 4.26m (13'11.75) and is fourth in the NCAA West and 10th nationally. She will be joined by Julianne Finch and Kassidy Neptune in vault on Saturday.

Riley Slayton led a trio of `Runners in the 400m hurdles recording the fastest event time at CSUB in 27 years and the second fastest all time. Julia Stein notched seventh best all-time while Jaztyn Greer moved up to fifteenth. Riley Slayton is ranked first in the Big West and Julia Stein is ranked sixth. All three will compete in both the 100mH and 400mH as well as the 1600m relay.

Mariah LeSure has led the sprints group placing Top 8 in a deep field at the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State last Friday.  She is currently ranked fifth in conference.

Bakersfield men's throws were showcased last week with three etching their names on the all-time lists in their events.  Hugo Santana, Thomas Richardson, and Evan Vigrass all placed well and moved up on depth charts.  Evan Vigrass moved to 17th in the javelin, Thomas Richardson moved to 15th in the shot put and Hugo Santana moved 11th on the hammer throw list.  All three are ranked Top 8 in the Big West Conference.

Curtis Threlkeld will go down in distance this week at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational competing in the 400m and 1600m relay Saturday. The two-time 800m Western Athletic Conference champion will work on his speed before returning to his signature 800m event next week. Joining him in the 400m race and relay are Derek Crawford and JJ Flores.

"This is a fun meet with lots of good competition in a great environment," explained Director of Track and Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "We look to build upon the success so far and raise the performances of the team."
