BAKERSFIELD – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team dropped both ends of Saturday's double header against visiting Utah, in front of an announced crowd of 556 at Hardt Field. The Roadrunners fell to 3-7 on the season, while the Utes improved to 8-1-1. The two teams will close out their four-game weekend series, Sunday, at 1:05 p.m.
"We didn't get the results we wanted today, but we did play the game well and with more fire in our belly in game two," said CSUB Head Coach Jeremy Beard. "A lot of different guys contributed and competed and that will be key for our team moving forward."
AJ Miller led the `Runner offense, finishing the day 4-for-6 with a double and three runs scored. Andrew Allanson broke out in the nightcap with a 2-for-5 effort, including a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extras.
Kevin Altamirano was excellent in relief in game two, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings and striking out four.
GAME ONE...
T1 | A walk and a passed ball plated gifted Utah an early unearned run after one half inning, with Kai Roberts crossing the plate on Alex Baeza's ground ball to shortstop.
T2 | Utah tacked on two more in the second when Carter Booth bounced a single up the middle to score TJ Clarkson and Matt Richardson.
T4 | An RBI double from Chase Anderson and a two-run home run from Hawai'i transfer Alex Baeza extended Utah's lead to 6-0
T6 | Anderson picked up his third RBI of the day when his ground ball to shortstop drove in Carter Booth.
B6 | Bakersfield got on the board in the sixth when Bailey Seeger singled to extend his hitting streak to five games, plating a pair.
T7 | Matt Richardson stole home with two outs in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring.
GAME TWO...
T1 | Utah scored twice in the first on a pair of walks and a throwing error by CSUB pitcher Adrian Santa Cruz.
B1 | The Roadrunners answered immediately with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. Andrew Allanson and Kobe Silva delivered sacrifice fly balls and Andrew Miller drove in a run with a single.
B3 | AJ Miller and Aaron Casillas strung together back-to-back, two-out singles to plate a run in the third and make it 4-2 CSUB.
T4 | Utah scored three times to take the lead. Chase Anderson had an RBI single, while Jayden Kiernan drove in a pair with his single back through the box.
B4 | Left fielder Nic Anderson-Vine created a run with his speed when he led off the Bakersfield fourth with a double to right, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Cory Blackburn's infield single.
B5 | CSUB moved back in front in the fifth when Miller led off with single through the right-side and came around to score on a Kobe Silva double.
T6 | Two singles and an error drew Utah even in the top half of the sixth. TJ Clarkson singled through the right side off reliever Kevin Altamirano to score Kai Roberts.
T9 | Kai Roberts doubled down the line in left to score Davis Cop. Cop reached on a one out single through the left side of the Bakersfield infield.
B9 | Allanson needed just one pitch to even the score, driving a fastball over the fence in centerfield to force extra innings.
T11 | Matt Richardson walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third when Landon Frei faked a bunt and chopped a double past third base. He'd score the winning run two batters later on Carter Booth's sacrifice fly.
NOTABLE...
* Bakersfield is now 20-36 all-time in games against Pac-12 opponents, and 11-13 in contests played at Hardt Field. The Utes extended their all-time series advantage to 8-4.
* Catcher Bailey Seeger extended his hitting streak to five games in the opener. He came off the bench in game two and finished 0-for-1 when his drive into the right-center field gap was run down by Utah's Dakota Duffalo.
* Anderson-Vine was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored in game two, he's now 3-for-5 in limited action this season.
* AJ Miller has six hits in his last 14 at bats dating back to his home run in a CSUB loss to Fresno State. Heading into the Fresno State game he was 3-for-23.

The Roadrunners and Utes wrap up their four-game series with a Sunday series finale scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Southpaw Kellen O'Connor will make his third start of the season for the Roadrunners, opposed by Utah right-hander Cam Day.
