Brimer's Second-Place Finish Leads `Runner Men

SAN GABRIEL – Autumn D'Arcy won the 100 Butterfly setting the tone for CSU Bakersfield on a strong third day at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at East Los Angeles College in San Gabriel. Twelve Roadrunner swimmers competed in A- or B-Finals on Friday evening, as both the CSUB men and women solidified their sixth-place standings.

"Autumn continues to raise the bar for herself and our program," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "She put together a terrific race and is a deserving champion."

D'Arcy swam a 52.22, just .09 off her personal best time, to capture her eighth conference title and her third in the 100 Butterfly. She'll swim for number nine tomorrow in the 200 Butterfly. She already owns an NCAA B-Cut in the event and is squarely in the mix to represent CSUB at the NCAA Championships later this season.

"Autumn set the tone early and we got great swims up and down our lineup today," Hansen added. "We put several athletes into evening finals and built a lot of momentum heading into Saturday."

On the men's side, Ryan Brimer was second in the 200 Freestyle, earning the highest conference finish of his CSUB career. Brimer swam a 1:36.69 to grab his runner-up finish.

Mikayla Popham posted her second top-four finish of the weekend with a fourth-place effort in the women's 200 Freestyle. Last night she was second in the 50 Freestyle.

Loren Gillilan and Kris Rogic each clocked seventh place finishes. Gillilan posted a 48.65 in the 100 Butterfly, while Rogic swam a 48.24 in the 100 Backstroke. Antonio Milin was eighth in the 100 Breaststroke.

D'Arcy and Popham combined to lead the CSUB women to a third-place outing in the 400 Medley Relay. Freshman Leah Kirkman and Danielle Albright swam the opening two legs of the relay as the quartet posted the fifth-fastest time in Bakersfield history (3:44.07).

The men's relay finished sixth with a time of 3:19.26.

In diving, freshman Dyson Modica made his second-straight finals appearance grabbing seventh on the 3-Meter board with a score of 252.05.

Senior Lauren Carson led the women on the 1-Meter board, finishing 16th.
