CSUB Volleyball Nets Four Academic All-District Honorees

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSU Bakersfield volleyball team enjoyed four Roadrunners earning Academic All-District honors on Tuesday: Caroline Benke, Paige Calvin, Laura De Pra, and Hana Makonova.

Three of the four `Runners chosen for the distinction have overcome the language barrier set before them to post standout academic performances. Benke and De Pra originally hail from Brazil while Makonova came to Bakersfield from the Czech Republic.

Benke is a senior defensive specialist graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. She has maintained a nearly unblemished GPA of 3.98 while also serving as an integral part of the CSUB back row. This season, Benke ranks fourth on the team with 162 digs.

Another member of the engineering department, Makonova will also graduate this year while maintaining a 3.92 GPA. The middle blocker is on the brink of moving into third in CSUB's Division I history in career blocks despite only having played three full seasons.

De Pra came to CSUB as a graduate transfer this past summer, bringing a 3.74 cumulative GPA along with her. While working on a master's in public administration, De Pra is also Bakersfield's starting setter. She is averaging 6.49 assists per set on the year and has reset career highs in almost every statistical category this season.

Finally, Calvin is also in her first semester of graduate school after posting a 3.89 GPA along the way to earning a bachelor's degree in communications last spring. Since transfering to CSUB from Sacramento State two years ago, Calvin has been Bakersfield's starting libero and has amassed 888 digs in her career.
