CSUB Swimming Nabs Two Incoming Freshmen on NLI

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Two incoming freshmen signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cal State Bakersfield swim teams, with one joining the men and one for the women. CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen welcomed both Josiane Hill, from New Zealand, to the women's team and CJ Manuel, a California native, to the men's team.

Quotes from Hansen
  • "The backstroke has been a weak spot for us this year, so the addition of Josiane will help us with more depth in the back events. She will also give us much needed depth in the butterfly events."
  • "Like on the women's side, backstroke has been a missing key for us this season in the men's team. It was hard to replace Kris Rogic and Julio Alcantar after their graduation. CJ will help us fill in those gaps."
Josiane Hill

  • Competes for Jasi Swim Club
  • Backstroke and butterfly specialist.
  • In the 2021-22 season, she ranked 2nd at the club in her age group and 3rd in the open.

CJ Manuel

  • Competes for San Diego Seaport Aquatics
