Pelton Welcomes CSUB Alum Modica as Diving Coach

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield Director of Swimming & Diving Shane Pelton has rounded out the core of his coaching staff with the hiring of a Roadrunner record holder. Pelton has announced that Dyson Modica will join the staff as the Diving Coach heading into the 2026-27 season.

Dyson Modica – Diving Coach

One year removed from a decorated career as a `Runner student-athlete, Modica returns to CSUB as the Diving Coach. Even during his collegiate career, Modica started building his coaching resume, splitting the last two and a half years as a dive coach for the Kern High School District, California Elite Diving, and, most recently, Mile High Dive Club back in his home state.

While competing in the Blue & Gold, Modica earned eight All-Conference honors, including one or more in each of his four seasons. He rounded out his senior season as three-time medalist at the Big West Championships. Along the way, Modica reset CSUB's record on the 1-meter springboard and platform events. He still holds the platform record and ranks Top 5 on both the 1-meter and 3-meter.
