Swimmers Welcome Pomona-Pitzer to Hillman Aquatic Center

Bakersfield – The California State University, Bakersfield Swimming and Diving teams return to action Saturday, Oct. 22, hosting the Pomona-Pitzer in a dual meet event at the John S. Hillman Aquatic Center, beginning at noon. The Roadrunners opened the season a week ago with a pair of home invitationals and will now get their first taste of head-to-head competition against the Sagehens.

"Pomona-Pitzer is a strong team that we do not take lightly," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We're hopeful that more depth will begin to develop on both rosters, and this is a good weekend for more of our student-athletes to step up and score big points."

Returners Mikayla Popham, Jessica Franco and Hannah Marsh will lead the way for the women's team, joined by newcomers Kylie Ney and Chelaine Van der Westhuizen.

Popham picked up right where she left off a season ago, earning her first victory by more than six seconds in the 500 Freestyle at the CSUB Sprint Invitational.

Van der Westhuizen, meanwhile, garnered a pair of victories – including the 4^th all-time on the CSUB Top-10 in the 200 Breaststroke with her time of 2:18.59.

A young men's roster expects significant contributions from Vili Sivec, Jacob Folsom, Timothy Engel, Arthur Schneider and Yigit Saglam this season. Dyson Modica is also expected to continue contributing in the diving well.

Sivec won the first race of his Bakersfield career when he touched the wall first in the 200 Butterfly at the Roadrunner Invitational. Veteran Antonio Milin won the 50 Butterfly the day before at the CSUB Sprint Invitational.

The Bakersfield men were 2-0 in dual meets last season, including a 210.0-73.0 victory over the Sagehens on Oct. 30, while the women finished 3-1 in duals. The women's team bested Pomona-Pitzer 186.5-113.5 during the 2021-22 campaign.
