Miller Leads Way for Track & Field at NAU Meet

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The CSU Bakersfield women's track and field team placed 8th out of 12 teams at the Lumberjack Team Challenge.

The day of action was highlighted by the performances of Miranda Miller and Nerissa Thompson. Miller was the top collegiate finisher in pole vault with a mark of 4.0m (13'1.5") – a school indoor record. Thompson finished one one-hundredths of a second behind 11th in a pool of 45 sprinters in the 60-meter dash with a career-best time of 7.85.

"Considering how much time we've missed and dealing with COVID protocols," stated Director of Track & Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "I think we handled the Lumberjack Challenge well and it gives us something to build on."

Other top finishers for CSUB on Friday were Neyda Martinez (6th), Alexa Schacher in pole vault (8th), Kassidy Neptune in pole vault (9th), Alicia Muralles in the 3000-meter (10th), and Jessi Solis in weight throw (12th).

"I am very optimistic," added Mansur-Wentworth. "We competed tough and had great attitudes today. I'm very proud of this effort."

The Roadrunners will next be in action on January 29, when the women compete at the UNM Team Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
