Day One at Big West Championships Complete

IRVINE, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's outdoor track and field did not go unnoticed in day one of Big West Championships competition. Miranda Miller earned the Roadrunners first conference medal with bronze in women's pole vault.

Hugo Santana was the first to place Top 8 and earn team points, throwing in one of the earlier events of the meet. Santana's best hammer toss landed 184'7" from the line, sixth best.

Miller was one of the last three women's vaulters on the runway after clearing 12'9" but would peak there on the afternoon. Julianne Finch tied fourth with the next best performance marks.

Director of Track and Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth commented on the pair, "Miranda and Julianne had a fantastic performance to finish third and fourth."

Even though a freshman, Julia Stein understood the assignment - advance. Her 400 Meter Hurdles time was fast enough to qualify her for the final race on Saturday.

Bianca Frausto had run the 10,000m once this season before today, but still managed to race a Top 9 school time in the event.

"There were a few disappointments," added Mansur-Wentworth, "but overall, I was pleased with the performance, attitude and effort of our student athletes."
