Bakersfield, Calif. – Evan Berkey, Aaron Casillas and Jacen Roberson all had multi-hit games, but CSU Bakersfield suffered a series-opening loss to CSUN, 9-4, Friday afternoon at Hardt Field. The Roadrunners outhit CSUN 10-9, but the Matadors used eight walks and three home runs to pick up their 10th win of the season. CSUB falls to 14-10 overall and 11-6 in Big West play.

The series continues Saturday with a double header starting at noon. Aaron Charles and Art Joven will start on the mound for CSUB.

How it Happened:
• With one out in the first, Charles walked, and Roberson doubled, putting two runners in scoring position. Berkey followed with a sharp single over third to open the scoring. Jorgensen added a sacrifice fly to give CSUB a 2-0 after one.
• The Matadors answered in the top of the second when Denzel Clarke drove a two-run homer over the fence in left-center field.
• Morrissey scored on a wild pitch to give the `Runners a 3-2 lead. He led off the bottom of the third with a walk, before advancing to third on Roberson's second double of the game.
• Clark responded with his third RBI of the day when he pulled a single through the left side to score Ryan Ball in the top of the fourth, tying the game at three.
• Northridge grabbed its first lead in the top of the fifth, when Jason Newman hit a three-run home run off the top of the right field fence to make it 6-3.
• Morrissey led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and around to score on Jorgensen's base hit inching CSUB closer at 6-4.
• The Matadors made it 7-4 in the sixth when Sean Skelly led off the inning with a hit by pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mason Le.

Quotable:
Head Coach Jeremy Beard
On a series opening loss…
"I didn't think we came out with good energy today. We had a good pre-game and started well, but every time we scored, they countered in the following inning. One of our regular goals is to put up a zero after we score in an inning, but we had a hard time working ahead and making pitches. They did a nice job taking advantage of our mistakes."

On how the team will bounce back…
"I expect our guys will come right back tomorrow and play their best baseball. We'll use this as a learning experience and work towards being better in all three phases tomorrow."
