Three `Runner Men Reach Finals at US Open

Bakersfield, Calif. – Junior Autumn D'Arcy won CSU Bakersfield's first medal in a USA Swimming national event, grabbing silver in the 100 Butterfly at the Toyota US Open Championships in Greensboro, N.C. D'Arcy finished just 19 hundredths of a second out of first place, setting a new personal best and a long-course, program record with her time of 1:00.24. Three Roadrunner men also reached evening finals in a strong all-around showing for CSUB.

"At this time last year, we were scrambling for pool time and tonight we had four swimmers in US Open finals," noted CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "Autumn handled the pressure and attention like a champion and grabbed the attention of the swimming world with her medal tonight!"

Kris Rogic (100 Backstroke), Loren Gillilan (100 Butterfly) and Ryan Brimer (200 Freestyle) all reached C Finals on Friday night.

"Our men are not rested or shaved, so getting three through to the finals is an impressive accomplishment," Hansen added. "I'm incredibly proud of how we've performed so far."

The `Runners complete their trip to the US Open on Saturday, with swims for Brimer, Rogic and sophomore Mikayla Popham.

NOTABLE:
  • D'Arcy set a school record in the preliminary round (1:00.42), before shaving another 0.18 seconds off the pace in the finals.
  • She also swam the 100 Backstroke during today's preliminary schedule, posting a time of 1:06.30.
  • D'Arcy was the first Roadrunner to even reach an A-Final at a USA Swimming National Event.
  • She missed out on her 12th win of the season and the 58th of her CSUB career by just 19 hundredths of a second.
  • Popham set a new long-course CSUB record in the 50 Freestyle, when she clocked a 26.52 in a time-trial on Thursday morning. She earned a US National cut with that time.
  • Brimer's final time of 1:56.23 in the 200 Freestyle was a personal best.
  • Rogic reached the US Open Finals in the 100 Backstroke for the second time in his career; he placed 18th in 2019 with a time of 56.23.
  • Antonio Milin did not advance past the preliminary rounds but did collect a new personal-best with a 1:06.88 in the 100 Breaststroke.
