CSUB Sweeps UC San Diego in the Icardo Center

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A 3-0 sweep over the UC San Diego Tritons Saturday night helped the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team to a 2-0 weekend at the Icardo Center. After coming from behind against UC Irvine to win in five sets the night before, the Roadrunners battled to earn a straight-sets victory over UCSD in front of a crowd of over 500 Rowdy fans.

After the match, Bakersfield's leading hitter on the night, Milica Vukobrat, discussed the momentum this weekend's victories give the surging `Runners: "We are very hyped up. We are so excited to have a home week again; it's so nice to be on our home court. After a long time of traveling, it's very good to be home."

With the win, the `Runners improved to 12-6 on the year and an even 5-5 in Big West Conference play. CSUB, which was predicted to finish ninth of eleven teams in the league's preseason poll, is now tied with Cal State Fullerton for fifth place with Saturday night's victory and the `Runners are just two matches out of third.

A native of Novi Sad, Serbia, Vukobrat's team-high 10 kills helped lead a potent and well-balanced CSUB offense to victory. On the night, six total `Runners tallied at least six kills including seven each from Hayley McCluskey, Samia Bhakta, and Seleisa Elisaia.

A strong serving game was crucial for the `Runners on Saturday as Bakersfield tallied 10 aces on the night. Leading the charge on that effort was CSUB libero Paige Calvin, who recorded six aces on her own, including four-straight in Set 2. Calvin's mark of six service aces is one shy of CSUB's single-match record.

Bakersfield will play host to another pair of Big West opponents next week before hitting the road once again. The `Runners have wrapped the first half of league play and will start the second round against their 10 Big West foes. On Friday, Oct. 29, Long Beach State will come to town for a rematch with the `Runners before a Saturday evening matchup with Cal State Fullerton.

Tickets to next week's matches in the Icardo Center are available online at GoRunners.com/tickets while fans who cannot root for their favorite teams in person can watch live on ESPN+.
